Viretta Celestine Hines Obituary

Viretta Faye Celestine- Hines was born on January 15,1963 in San Diego California, to Ms. Loretta Faye Ross and Lawrence Gilbert.

At an early age Viretta was baptized and started her Christian journey at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with Reverend Joseph W Scott. There she sang in the youth choir, amongst being involved in other activities in the church. Viretta later moved on to Bayview Baptist Church with Pastor Timothy J Winter. Her last known church of attendance was Pilgrim Baptist Church with Reverend Marvin Hines.

Viretta better known by her nickname “Sweet” was a very kind and loving woman who would always put everyone’s needs first. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Growing up Sweet started school at Crockette Elementary, Logan Elementary, and Memorial Jr High, where she was in theater and performing arts class. Viretta was very bright in her studies and was loved by all her teachers and classmates. As a young teen she was a cheerleader for Valencia Park Pop Warner and also played soft ball for South East girls’ team. She then moved on to Point Loma High School where she was always doing sporting activities such as being on the girls bobbie sox team, being on the basketball, drill team and much more.

After completing High School Sweet moved on at a steady pace launching a career working for 32nd Street Naval Station Military Housing Department as a Housing Inspector. Sweet worked here for the better half of her life. She also followed her dreams of becoming a business woman and always helping family and friends to obtain housing, employment, and other business opportunities.

In 1983 Sweet found the love of her life Marvin Hines Senior who she later married. Through this union they became proud parents of two wonderful children: Marvin Jr and Matrice.

Sweet is preceded in death by her mother Loretta Faye Ross, Father Lawrence Gilbert, Sister Theresa Brewer, Brother Moses Celestine, Grandmother Georgia Martin, and Grandfather Wilbert Ross Jr.
