Remembering Viola…

Today we pause in humble submission to the will of our Father in heaven, who in his perfect timing, has called home to eternity one of his own Viola Louise Swindell.  Her journey began February 14, 1938, in Henderson, TX to James and Mattie Stephenson.

Viola accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She received her formal education at Panola County Public School.

In 1954 she met her soul mate Cecil Swindell.  The two were joined in Holy Matrimony on April 27, 1954, lasting 66 years.  To this union four children were born.  In 1955 they relocated to San Diego, CA.

Viola had lots of love to give.  Her compassionate spirit led her to share with many who affectionately called her mom and she felt honored.  Viola had a bubbly personality with a beautiful smile.  She loved to cook for her family and friends.  Her best moments to share were cooking and baking.  And she enjoyed sharing her recipes.  Viola’s devotion to her family was her pride and joy.  She was very inspirational when it came to the family unity.  On the other hand, she would put fire into you if you ruffled her Indian feathers.

On July 5, 2020, the Lord called her home to rest in His loving arms.  Memories of her will forever live in our hearts, never to be erased!

Preceded her in death are her parents James and Mattie Stephenson, brothers Alfonzo and James “Red” Stephenson, Sisters Gloria Stephenson, Bernell Hollis and Vera Gaynor.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: her husband Cecil Swindell, Sr., three sons:  Cecil (Brenda) Swindell, Jr. of Beaumont, CA; Dewane and Ronald Swindell, daughter: Stephanie (Jerry) Branigan of San Diego, CA.  Four grandchildren: Jermaine and Eriq Branigan of Hemet, CA; Anthony Wilson of Los Angeles, CA, Bryan Wilson of Desert Hot Springs, CA; great-grandson: Jerrel Branigan of Apple Valley, CA; brother: Weldon Stephenson of San Diego, CA and sister:  Marie Winslow of San Pablo, CA. and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Sleep on my dear wife, our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend.  Take your rest, we will always love you, but God loves you best.
