Tony Pinckney Obituary

Tony Pinckney, the late husband of Edna Iglesias Pinckney transitioned to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Palomar Medical Center in San Diego, California.  He was the son of the late Arthurlee and Mary “Nat” Pinckney. His maternal grandparents were Willie, Sr. and Janie Hunter and his paternal grandparents were Leon and Martha Pinckney, all of John’s Island, South Carolina.  Tony joined Wesley United Methodist Church, Johns Island, South Carolina, as a teenager under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Willis T. Goodwin.

He attended the elementary and middle schools on Johns Island, South Carolina.  Later, when he graduated from St. Johns High school in June of 1983, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp where he served his country for seven years.  When he was stationed in San Diego, he decided to make that his home. He resided in San Diego for well over 30 years where he met the person whom God wanted him to be with, Edna Iglesias.  To this union, they shared four children:  Antonisha, Rachel, Bryan & Kristine. He was employed with Chef Works Apparel in San Diego for many years working in the accounting department.

Tony’s sparkling personality always made people feel welcomed and content.  He knew how to spread love to his family and strangers he may have just met.  Anyone who ever met Tony was blessed with his genuine graciousness. During Tony’s life he enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything. Tony also enjoyed watching new movies, Game weekends with his brother Leonard & Nephew JR as well as dining at new restaurants. Tony was an all-around family man he and his wife Edna enjoyed taking their kids on vacation or just staying in and joking around. Tony was very close with his Brother Leonard and they were definitely a dynamic duo who spent so much time together you would think they were each other’s shadows. He was always grateful to have his brother as his best friend. Tony and his Daughter Antonisha had a bond like no other, code words and inside jokes that they would laugh at daily. She was so proud of her father she named her son Tony after him, the greatest man she had ever known. He was known as one of the go-to person for the family.  Whenever and wherever he was needed, he was there. On December 23, God said Tony’s purpose on earth was complete, and He called him home to eternal rest and reward.

Tony left to cherish his fond memories and legacy his wife of 16 years, Edna; four children: Antonisha, Rachel, Bryan and Kristine; one grandson: Tony Oatis, all of San Diego, CA; his six siblings: Mary Chapman of Hartford, CT, Arthur Hunter (Dorothy) of Los Angeles CA, Rosalee Wright (Joseph) of Johns Island, SC, Larry Pinckney (Deidrea) of Summerville, SC, Leonard Pinckney (Delores) of San Diego, CA, and Thelma Cohen (Dwight) of John’s Island, SC; 19 Nieces and Nephews; 30 great-grand nieces and nephews: One great, great nephew; Five Aunts, Seven Uncles and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
