Stanley Russ Obituary

Stanley Eugene Russ was the fourth of five children born to Pauline Ida and Clyde Lee Russ, Sr. on September, 19, 1947 in San Diego, California.  He received his formal education at Stockton Elementary, Memorial Jr. High and he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965.  As teenager, Stanley spent his past time with his close friends, a group of young men called “Olivewood Terrace Group”, Larry Brown, Ronnie Reed, Jimmy Scott and Stanley. Stanley was given the name “Dr. Shock” because when he hit you, he would knock you out cold and everyone around would go into shock!  Stanley was known for being kind hearted, but you didn’t want to be on his bad side. He was well known in the streets and could be found on any given day mentoring young boys and men, using his life story as a cautionary tale. He frequently explained that if he could do it over again, he would. Stanley would tell the young people to listen to their parents, go to school and live a good life. He recognized that the community had changed and it was no longer safe.  “There was a time when a fist fight would handle everything and back then we would even get up and shake hands and it was settled,” he told a young man, “but these days, they just shoot you dead.” Stanley had many jobs all over San Diego; he was a jack of all trades.  He was employed at National Steel & Shipbuilding.  When others couldn’t get the job done, Stanley was called to handle it. Earlier in life, Stanley accepted the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam. He loved his family and had a special love for his nieces and nephews.  He would always speak highly of how proud he was of all of them.  He is preceded in death by both parents, his brothers: Clyde Lee Russ, Jr.  and Harold William Russ, Sr. as well as his sisters: Gloria Jean Ellis and Paula Schemm. Stanley departed this life on December 8, 2018.  He leaves cherish his memory: his brother, Morris Russ of Perris, CA; brother-in-law, Robert Ellis, of Spring Valley, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.  We will surely miss Stanley, but we will never forget the life lessons he generously shared with us all.
