Scott Mankivsky Obituary

Scott Matthew Mankivsky

December 23, 1989 – July 21, 2022

US Navy Veteran

Scott Matthew Mankivsky, 32, formerly of Naperville, IL, passed away at his home in San Diego, CA on July 21, 2022.

Scott attended Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, IL where he excelled in music as a percussionist and as an All-State athlete in football and track. He was an excellent student and was selected as Athlete of the Year.

After graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in English/Creative Writing, Scott enlisted in the US Navy where he trained with the Basic Underwater Demolition (BUDs)/SEAL program in Coronado, CA, deployed to the Persian Gulf on the USS Carl Vinson, and completed Search and Rescue training before an honorable discharge following injury as a Third Class Petty Officer. He recently qualified as a professional body builder with the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Men’s Physique division and was looking forward to his next competition in the pro arena. Scott was enrolled in the National Personal Training Institute in San Diego where he was working towards his Personal Trainer certification. An accomplished writer and musician, Scott was writing a novel and enjoyed making keyboard techno recordings.

Scott is survived by his mother and father, Linda Ziemann (Tom) and Dan Mankivsky (Laura); brothers Mark Mankivsky (Alanna) of Denver, CO and Chris Ziemann (Myndi) of Jacksonville, FL; sisters Tracy Bongiorno (Tony) of LaGrange Park, IL and Stephanie Ziemann of Oswego, IL; grandmother Carol Bandman of Wadsworth, IL and grandfather Tony Mankivsky of Downers Grove, IL; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephew, his beloved cats Merlin and Gandalf; and friends, especially Lauren – all of whom will miss him very much.

Scott had a strong faith and chose to tattoo ‘Joshua 1:9’ prominently on his lower leg. The verse applies perfectly to Scott, who was strong, kind, and tender-hearted. “Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Rest in peace, Scott.

For California friends, Lauren is hosting a celebration of Scott at Tidelands Park in Coronado on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM for anyone that wants to stop by for coffee and donuts.

A memorial service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Aurora, IL on

Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
