Robert Charles Nash was born on November 14, 1938 in Newark, New Jersey. The names of his parents are unknown, but his given birth name was Joseph Jaskowiak. He was adopted by Charles and Luella Nash when he was a few months old when they changed his name. The family moved to San Diego when he was a year old. His father became a firefighter and his mother worked at the Convairplant that produced airplanes. They lived in the Linda Vista area of San Diego for several years before moving into a custom-built home in the hills above San Diego’s Mission Bay.
He graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1957 and married Anne Ballard that same year. They moved to Georgetown, Texas where their son, Robert Charles Jr. was born on September 6, 1958. After moving back to San Diego the next year, their daughter Deborah Lynn was born on October 29, 1959.
Robert married Michele Bernard on February 24, 1962. Michele did a single parent adoption of
Robert Jr. and Deborah in 1965, and the whole family moved to a new home in the Princess Gardens neighborhood of San Diego. Their daughter Melanie Marie was born on June 8, 1968, followed by their son Jeffrey Eric on August 9, 1970.
Robert was employed by Fed Mart in the produce department from 1960 to 1982, rising from clerk to department manager. After all of the Fed Mart stores closed in 1982, he then went to work for Ralphs until he retired in 1995.
Robert was an avid fisherman and hunter, fishing at all of the lakes in San Diego County and going to Utah and Colorado to hunt deer and elk for many years. He loved spending time with his family and taking his grandchildren to Sea World, the Zoo, and Safari Park. He was loved by so many and will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
