Rizal Pascual Obituary

Tatay Rizal was a gentle father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor, and loved one. Rizal Valencia Pascual, 80 years old, passed away from a heart attack at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center on February 6th, 2024.

He was born in Masinloc, Zambales, on August 17th, 1942, to Petronilo and Florencia Pascual. He graduated from Northern Zambales Academy and worked as a fisherman growing up. Rizal met the love of his life, Sorayda, in Masinloc at the San Salvador barrio when they were both in their teens. Excited to start their new lives together, 20-year-old Rizal and 18-year-old Sorayda were married on July 8th, 1964, at San Andres Church. Rizal and Sorayda couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to them. They gave life to their daughter and four sons, Edith, Rudymond, Garry, Al, and Rizal Jr. “Jurry.” Though he loved fishing and watching basketball, Rizal’s favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Tatay, never failing to provide love, care, and support.

While alive, he would often venture out on his fishing expeditions at the crack of dawn with his fellow fisherman friends. He loved fishing at Imperial Beach, Shelter Island, and Ocean Beach. His eyes gleamed with the thrill of the catch, and his heart brimmed with stories of his fishing days, especially his days in the Philippines. He was a Lakers fan through and through, yet his sweet tooth remained a delightful secret, adding a sprinkle of joy to every adventure we shared.

Rizal will always be remembered for his kindness and the way he observed his loved ones with affection. We couldn’t have asked for a better father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor, and loved one. We will miss Tatay Rizal every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

He will always be remembered for his words "Gulay, Mahaba ang Buhay"
