Richard Sam Sanderson, known as 'Samsand' to him family and close friends, died Friday morning at his retirement home in North San Diego County. Samsand had suffered a major stroke among other significant heath issues which lead him into declining health for much of the last ten years.
Samsand was originally form Oklahoma City. He moved to San Diego county when he was 27, in an attempt to secure military contracts with the Navy. His Carlsbad based communications business was sold to a regional corporation conglomerate in 1987. After the sale of Western-Stern Telecom, Samsand pretty much retired. At 48, he transitioned into a high school sports enthusiast, he followed all of the north county sports teams. He enjoyed the purity of high school athletics. Suggesting that even collage sports were contaminated because of the multi-million broadcasting contracts and outrageous coaching salaries.
Samsand never married but he leaves behind four very close nephews and two super-outstanding great-nieces.
