Raygena Natha Erwin was born June 20, 1932 on a small farm in Edmonton, Kentucky to the late Scott Erwin and Hallie McKinney.
Two siblings John Erwin and Rachel Erwin also preceded her in death.
Raygena received her formal education in Edmonton.

Raygena, fondly called “Jean” ,was very adventurous. In 1957 she met Bennie H. Shipley in Columbus, Indiana where they were married. Shortly after, they moved to San Diego, Ca. To this union one son, Benjamin (Benjie) J. Shipley was born
Jean was a mother of one, but through Benjie she became a mother to many. Her first born grandson Rico called her the endearing name, “ Grandmommy”! Because of this, everyone now refers to her as Grandmommy.
                                         Work Life:
In August 1971 Jean earned a Bachelor Degree from San Diego State. In pursuit of her dreams of becoming a teacher for students with Special Needs, she continued her studies and in August 1974 she earned a Master Degree in Special Education from La Verne College. After retiring from teaching, Jean joined a gardening club. She was a natural green thumb and was always so  happy to show off her beautiful flowers and succulent plants. Jean was energetic and ambitious. She later trained and obtained her Real Estate license through Prudential Real Estate. She worked as a Realtor for California Realty.
