Norma has been a member of the St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church of God in Christ since 1968. She is an Evangelist and Singer and currently the President of the St. Stephen's Cathedral Choir and Secretary of the St. Stephen's Board of Trustees. She is a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Norma Jean Handy was born July 2, 1950 in Memphis, TN. Norma has been singing as long as she can remember. Her first public appearance was at the age five at the 15th Street Church of God in Christ. Norma has ministered throughout the United States and overseas, in churches, convocations, rescue missions, on the radio, television, on the streets; anywhere a door was opened to spread the gospel in song.
God in His infinite wisdom will, from time to time, anoint a voice to do just one thing…sing the Gospel. Norma is a noted singer and song writer. Norma will rarely sing a song the same way twice. Her style is a harmony of inspiration, emotion and spirit, which she delivers with reverence, power and conviction. Norma's dedication to the ministry at St. Stephen's is a shining example of the blessings that come our way when one is totally committed to a life in Jesus Christ.
Norma realized one of her lifelong dreams with the release of her first CD,
"Unspeakable Joy", in September 1999. She released her second CD, “Songs My Mother Loved”, June 2014. Norma has been married to Garrick L. Handy for 49 years. They are the proud parents of four (4) children, Rhonda R. Handy, Garrick L. Handy, Jr., Eric D. Handy and Shanetha Buchanan. They are the proud grandparents of Eric, Garrick, Wesley, Caprice, Ellese, Enaiya, and Byyinah.
