Melba Dodson Obituary

On December 16, 2021, Melba Mary Dodson (Evans) passed away at the age of 82.
Melba was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana on August 26, 1939.  She moved to California  with her husband, Samuel Evans, (Deceased) in the early 1960’s . They had twin boys, Ronald and Donald.  Before the twins were 1 years of age, Melba became a widow and had to raise her twin boys in South Central Los Angeles.  As a single mother, Melba had to juggle between family life and work.  It was not an easy task.  Her strength came beyond family and friends.  It came from her faith.  She trusted in Christ to get her through whatever obstacles she had to endure.  Melba was a strong willed and kind hearted woman who loved everyone.  She made sure everyone was taken care of before herself.  She was unselfish and was always helping others.  She had a big heart and was quite involved in the church. Melba was many things. She played the role of mother and father in a time when that wasn’t common. Despite the struggle, she always provided a loving and warm home for her twin boys.

Melba was many things to many people.  A mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend.  She was well loved by everyone from family, friends and everyone she met. She was an incredible source of strength. A positive, fiery, caring and loving person with a big heart who touched everyone she met.  She had the most radiant smile, that whenever she walks into the room she brightens it up.  Her passion was palpable and her energy will never be replaced.  Melba loved to cook and bake.  She would cook for everyone at the Church functions as well as all the holidays for friends and family.  One of many memories I have is,  more than once I remember mom was in the kitchen making Thanksgiving Dinner when we went to bed, and she was still cooking and baking when we woke up the next morning.  That was her favorite thing to do was bake and cook for all.  Melba never wanted to be center of attention.  She devoted her time and energy into her family and doing her part with volunteering her time at the church and school functions.   She was her sons biggest fan at all their sporting events from middle school through college.  Melba was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.

Melba was preceded by her step father James Francois, mother Blanche Francois, brother Phillip, husband Samuel Evans and son Donald.  She is survived by 4 brothers, Cliff, Lee J, Jeffrey and Paul, 5 sisters, Mildred, Ursula, Teresa, Lucy and Julie.  Many of nieces and nephews, son Ronald.  Grand Children, Sabrina Evans, Ronnie Evans Jr. and Jaden Evans.
