Lesell Jamison Obituary

Lesell Jamison, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024, in San Diego, California. Born on March 22, 1934, in Atlanta, Texas to the union of Leo and Blanchie Moore. She was the third of five children.  Lesell's life was a testament to the power of dedication to family, work, and community.

Lesell's early years were spent in the warm embrace of Atlanta, Texas, where she graduated from Atlanta High School. Her journey led her to San Diego in the early 1950s, a move that would shape the rest of her vibrant life. Working at Junior Government she met the love of her life, a  husband, WJ Jamison, They were married in 1971 and preceded her in death in 2015. This union brought about a blended family. The couple shared a deep bond, finding joy in volunteering and hosting lively BBQs, where their almost dance-like routine in the kitchen became a cherished sight.

Lesell was the beloved matriarch of a large and loving family. She is survived by her sister, Ollie Gene Grundley; her sons, Mark Jamison and James Whitfield; and her daughter, Alice Sampson. Lesell was a cherished grandmother to Hunter Jamison, Anthony Alexander, Erika Simmons, and a proud great-grandmother to Dominique, Daniele, Corbyn, Amira, Adrian, Erik, Destiny, Aaryan, and Avinia. Her family circle also included her dear daughter-in-law, Pamela Whitfield, her son, David Williams Jr, and her stepdaughter Lisa Burks, and her husband Lucous Burks. Grandchildren David Jr. and wife Brittany, Felisha and husband Andrew, Shaana, and husband Meredith, Marquinta and Angeleah. Great grandchildren Jayda, Naudia, Isaiah, David III, Andrew, Journey, and Ezra, Arthur Jamison stepson (deceased), and granddaughter Natasha Jamison and her two children Ross and Truth.  In her life, Lesell experienced the sorrow of loss, mourning her granddaughter Sharesa Tucker, but her unwavering strength and love never faltered.

Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to express her pride and love for each of them. The phrase "I Love you" was always met with her affectionate reply, "Love you more." Her meticulous nature extended beyond her family to her home and garden. Lesell took great pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, always waiting for her favorite gardener to maintain her impeccable yard. Her home was not just a residence but a symbol of the care and attention she devoted to every aspect of her life.

Lesell's interests reflected her character. She was deeply dedicated to her church, Bethel AME, and found solace and inspiration in gospel music, particularly the songs of Mahalia Jackson. An avid football fan, she rooted passionately for the San Diego Chargers and enjoyed sharing this pastime with her family and friends.

Her kindness knew no bounds. Lesell was the type of person who would do anything for anyone when asked, with a big heart that never harbored a bad word about anybody. Her love extended to simple pleasures, such as savoring her favorite club sandwich from Denny's during outings with her boys.

Described by those who knew her as thoughtful, generous, and loving, Lesell Jamison was an amazing woman who loved with her whole heart. Her presence will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her, yet her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and the community she so dearly loved.

Lesell's life was a beautiful melody of kindness, devotion, and grace. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we carry forward her legacy of love and the cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched. Lesell Jamison's story is not one of goodbye but of a life well-lived and a love that endures.
