Konnie Rose ~ A Celebration of Life ~ Legacy of Love

Our Beloved Konnie Rose Crawford (Woodard) was born on May 5th, 1941, in Las Cruces, New Mexico to
Arthur Lee Clipper (mother) and Kermit Roosevelt Woodard (father), and raised by Turner Clipper her Papa
who preceded her in their homegoing. Konnie Rose lived a vibrant and fulβilling life until she was called to her
heavenly home on December 27th, 2023. Konnie Rose leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her
husband Sampson Hugh Crawford, her only child Alan Clemente Harian, grandchildren Miesha Monique
Speller (Kareem), Keith Lee Harian (Kristen), Kenneth Jawan Harian, βive great-grandchildren, sister Betty Jo
Reliford (Celester), godson Lorne Polk (Tootsie), life-long friend Julia Cooper, and stepson Brandy Anderson
(Denise) along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Konnie Rose spent most of her childhood growing up in El Centro, California (aka “The Valley”), where she
developed her vivacious and tenacious spirit. Konnie’s intelligence and outgoing personality led her to join the
marching band while attending Central Union High and graduate with academic honors. Following high school,
Konnie moved away from Imperial Valley to pursue training in cosmetology at San Diego City College. After
completing a few courses, Konnie realized cosmetology was not her calling and returned to El Centro, where she
continued to hone her cut and curl skills with her family and friends who would sit in the chair.

On November 19th, 1960, Konnie Rose was blessed to give birth to Alan, her only child, whom she raised and
doted on with much love. Konnie’s love for life was infectious and extended beyond her family to embrace
everyone she encountered. Konnie’s commitment to motherhood, family, and personal achievement led her
down an unchartered path in 1964 to become the βirst female African American to be employed by Paciβic Bell
in Imperial Valley. Konnie understood the value of civil rights, as an inaugural member of the Imperial Valley
Chapter of the NAACP and did not take her career opportunities for granted.

On December 20th, 1996, after 32 years as a valued employee at Paciβic Telesis aka Paciβic Bell/AT&T, Konnie
climbed the corporate ranks to a managerial role when she retired as a Senior Engineer. Konnie’s dedication and
exceptional service were recognized by Mayor Susan Golding and the City Council of San Diego Special
Commendation signifying “KONNIE ROSE WOODARD DAY” in recognition of her work as Vice President of
Community Involvement Teams In Every Sector (CITIES). Konnie’s numerous achievements also include a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix,

Over the years, Konnie became known for hosting family and friends for holiday and sports gatherings. This
included being one of the beautiful women who formed the Belle’s social group and hosted annual parties and
talk-of-the-town get-togethers. Aunt Konnie Rose was considered by many to be “the Hostess with the Mostess.”
Her nieces and nephews would remind her often, “There Ain’t No Party Like an Aunt Konnie Party!” In addition,
what brought her joy was advocating for health and wellness as a wise counselor with hard truths to support
others’ ability to take care of themselves while she did the same.

On March 29th, 2008, Konnie entered holy matrimony with Sampson “Hugh” Crawford aka her “True Love” and
became a dedicated member of Bethel AME Church. Konnie served as President of the Class Leader Council and
the Mr. and Mrs. Ministry and together the Crawfords were active in the Mr. and Mrs. Ministry and taught DMV
classes. Konnie and Hugh also supported each other through challenging times particularly when Konnie
assumed the matriarchal mantle of honoring her mother’s Thanksgiving Legacy by preparing amazing feasts
and encouraging the family to come together in love and appreciation.

We will all miss Konnie and the ways she embodied her favorite holiday by demonstrating the Christmas Spirit
of giving every day of the year partnering with Costco, Sam’s Club, most recently Temu, and the Holy Spirit. Our
memories will continue to remind us how much she loved life and those she cared about... Her spirit will live
on, as we embrace every moment—loving and supporting one another.
