Josefina Hipolito was born October 25, 1939 to Antonia Felix and Paul Gamage in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala.
She was the one of five children. She was raised in Guatemala, with her brothers, Gramage, and Nathaniel and
sisters Jenny and Lou. She attended school in Guatemala and loved to dance the Salsa and Meringue!! After
graduation she found work and continued to help support her family and younger siblings. When she turned 25,
she immigrated to the United States to make a better life for herself. She later joined her best friend Rufina
Dailey and her family in San Diego California.
She found employment at Scripps Mercy Hospital and was a hard-working individual. She made friends at the
hospital and was employed there for forty years until her retirement.
In 1971 she married the brother of Rufina, Vance Dailey and to this union was born one child, Carla Dailey. She
loved being a mother and doted on her only child and nephew, Wilfred Dailey, whom she treated as a son. Once
her grandchildren came along, she loved doted on them unapologetically especially her grandson Matthew.
Josefina later met Henry Cagle who became a longtime friend. During their retirement, Henry and Josefina
enjoyed spending time together, traveling and spending time with family. They traveled together to San
Francisco, South Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Arkansas, Las Vegas, just to name a few. She loved the drive
and being able to take in the sights along the way.
On Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023, Josefina was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She is preceded in
death by her parents; brother Gramage Hipolito and one sister Jenny Hipolito. She leaves to cherish her
memory, sister: Lou Hipolito of Los Angeles. CA, brother: Nathaniel Felix, partner: Henry Cagle, nephew:
Gregory Hipolito of Los Angeles, beloved daughter: Carla Dailey of San Diego CA and two cherished
grandchildren; Matthew Dailey and Ashley Coleman, both from San Diego, CA, good friend: Vilma Palencia,
nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.
