It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Beloved Jesus Babauta Cruz (Chu Kan), who peacefully departed this life on March 31, 2025 at the age of 87 in San Diego, CA. Born on February 11th 1938 to Jose Quintanilla Cruz & Josefa Babauta Cruz in Sumay Guam. Jesus was a devoted Husband of Ruth (Tonko) Cruz and a loving Father to Duane Jeffrey, Deloreve Jessica (aka Sugar) and Jesse Joey who predeceased him in 1970.
Jesus is survived by the love of his life, wife & best friend of 65 plus years - Evelyn Ruth Reyes Cruz, Son - Duane Cruz & Daughter-in-Law Tasha Cruz, Daughter – Deloreve Cruz-Faris & Son-in-Law Ronald Faris, Grandchildren – Koniko Perry, Kiyano Perry, Trinity Cruz, Victoria Cruz, Matthew Cruz & Christopher Cruz, Sister - Tomasa Rehm, Brother – Joseph Cruz, and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews & friends.
He will join his son - Jesse Joey in heaven. Along with his Father, his Mother and his sister - Dionisia Chargualaf.
On June 8th, 1956 at the age of 18, Jesus joined the Military. While serving in the Navy, Jesus obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from National University and moved up in the ranks retiring as a Chief Petty Officer on December 29th, 1978. As a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Jesus served his country with honor and integrity. Jesus was a diligent man. Always finding ways to provide a good life for his family. After his military career, he immediately went to work for the Veterans Administration in San Diego till approximately 1987 when he and his wife Ruth moved back to Guam. There he worked for and retired with The Government of Guam. In 1998, Jesus & Ruth returned home (San Diego) to spend time with their Grandchildren. Before falling seriously ill and throughout his retirement Jesus was active in the Chamorro community volunteering his time to The Sons & Daughters of Guam Club.
Jesus was stoic. A man of few words. And at times hard to read when he’d scan a room. However, he’d smile from ear to ear whenever he was with family. Family meant the world to Jesus. His children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles - any opportunity that he had to see or spend time with them, he made every effort to be present.
He was supportive of everyone through good times and bad. Always giving his last dollar to help those in need and never thinking twice about it. He was the most patient man to walk this earth. Allowing most things to roll off his back.
Jesus’ kindness, generosity, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all.
