Harold Cannon Obituary

Larry, age 69, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in San Diego. He was born on July 25, 1956, in Nobelesville, IN. He was the eldest of five children and carried that role with quiet strength and responsibility throughout his life.

A proud Vietnam-era veteran, Larry served in the United States Marine Corps, where he exemplified discipline, courage, and leadership. During his service, he worked as a Field Radio Operator, Water Safety and Survival Instructor, Sharpshooter, and Drill Instructor. His military training included completion of the Water Safety/Survival Instructor Course and Drill Instructor School. His service was recognized with numerous honors and commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Expert Badge (4th Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal (with one service star), Certificate of Recognition, and Letter of Appreciation. These awards reflected not only his professional excellence but also his commitment to service, teamwork, and humanitarian values.

Following his military service, Larry dedicated 30 years to the United States Postal Service, where he built a long and steady career before retiring. He was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and deep pride in providing for his family.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, and his four children and their spouses: Scott and Ana, Larry and Amanda, Danielle and Ron, and Barbie and Kevin. He was also a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren: Kaley, Layla, Anabelle, Mason, Genesee, Logan, Jordan, Eli, Scarlett, Nolan, Eleanor, and Pablo, each of whom brought him immense joy and his siblings: Sam, Dawn, Sue, and MaryJane.

Beyond his service and career, Larry will be remembered most for who he was as a person. He was funny and quick-witted, with a rambunctious sense of humor that could light up any room. He never judged others, accepting everyone with an open heart and genuine kindness. Loving, generous, and deeply compassionate, Larry embodied Midwestern hospitality and had a gift for striking up conversations wherever he went.

His kindness often took the form of quiet heroism. He ran into a burning building to save a stranger, rushed into busy traffic to rescue a child, and gave his last dollar to someone in need. These acts were never done for recognition; they were simply how he lived.

Larry passed away surrounded by family during a beautiful San Diego sunset. Shortly before his passing, he was baptized by his son in the hospital garden — an intimate, peaceful, and deeply meaningful moment that reflected his faith, love, and the strong bonds he shared with his family. He will be remembered for his strength, service, humor, generosity, and unwavering kindness.
Larry’s legacy lives on through his family, his grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched through simple acts of humanity and love.
