Granville Hughes Obituary

In loving memory of Granville Omega Hughes aka “Bubba” born to Thelma Mae Houston October 21st, 1945 in Phoenix Arizona.  Bubba had a charisma about him that created friends daily. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, supporter of friends and family.  Bubba loved to dress, cook, and celebrate holidays, as well as read you or tell you off with no filter, which became the norm for those that knew him. Bubba loved listening to his gospel and encouraging his family to except Christ, as he did. He was an intricate part in all of his brothers and sister’s life as well as his nieces and nephews, great nieces, and great nephews’ life.

He joined Greater Johnson Missionary Baptist Church in 1998, and always remained loyal and faithful. For many years, he served as President of the Culinary Ministry, now named in his honor “Bubba’s Kitchen.” He also served as the President of the Sanctuary Choir, Brotherhood (Men’s Ministry) and the Brotherhood Choir, and served on the Youth Steering Committee. He cooked for the Youth Department. He also sang with New Hope Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choirs. He also sang in the Progressive Missionary Baptist District Association of Southern California Choir. “Bubba” became an ordained Deacon Sunday, October 21, 2020.  Bubba was fiercely loyal and very giving. If you needed something and if he had it, he would not hesitate to give it to you. Bubba loved his God Daughter Diamond Dearly, whom he helped raised. She was a huge part of Bubba’s life.  Whenever you saw Bubba you saw Lil Diamond with him. Bubba claimed her as his only child and you could not tell him otherwise, not even her parents. She was his daughter.

Bubba was proceeded in death by his mother, Thelma Houston, his brother Ronald and sisters Sylvia, and Bridget.

He is survived by his brothers, Joe, Jack and Larry and sisters, Pauline and Theresa ; 11 nephews and 9 nieces; as well as  a host of great nieces and nephews.
