George Rosalino Dorotan Ignacio (sometimes referred to as “Lindo”) passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 71, on April 7, 2024. He was the eldest son, born on July 13, 1952, in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines, to Basilino T. Ignacio and Visitacion D. Ignacio. His twin sister did not survive at birth. George joined the United States Navy on January 22, 1973, and built his life in San Diego, California, where he met his wife, Priscilla “Precy” Carandang Ignacio. Together they have 3 children, Mary Melissa I. Toledo (married to Angelo G. Toledo), Michele Marie C. Ignacio, and Michael George C. Ignacio. He has one grandson, Amiel Ignacio Toledo. George is also survived by his mother, his 4 sisters, Nelia I. Phee (married to Lino Phee), Ebeth I. Pate (married to Bobby Pate), Susan I. Sansano (married to Bobby Sansano), Lorie I. Layson (married to Bernie Layson), and his youngest brother, Edwin D. Ignacio (married to Jehnus Arañas-Ignacio). He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including twin grand nieces. He is known to all of the children as “Papa George” and he has many close extended relatives around the world and many, many, friends. George was preceded in death by his father Basilino T. Ignacio, nephew Josh Riley Arañas-Ignacio, and younger brother Perlito D. Ignacio. He also had a second grandson, Alden Ignacio Toledo, who died in the womb. George served in the United States Navy from January 1973 to May 1993 and then continued to work at the VA Hospital in La Jolla, where he retired after several years. He also worked for Asian Journal, where he helped deliver newspapers to various Filipino establishments in San Diego. As a side gig, he enjoyed selling tinapa fish to family and friends. Within that time, he was also President of the Bacoor Association of San Diego County in 1993 and an active member of the Lipa City Association. George became initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on July 9, 1997. He then passed to the degree of Fellowcraft Mason on November 12, 1997, and was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on January, 23, 1998. He served as Senior Steward of Silver Gate Three Stars Lodge No. 296 during the 2000 Masonic year and he was presented with the 25-Year Anniversary Award on September 1, 2023, for his outstanding and dedicated service to Freemasonry.
