Esther Ruth Taylor passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on September 30th, 2018 at the age of 79.
Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on January 9th, 1939 to Jesse and Mary Johnson, Esther was one of nine children; Myrtle Delores, William Leon, Jesse Jr., Doris Marie, Lois Juanita, Gayle Patricia, Brenda Ray and Darrell Wayne Johnson. Even at a young age, she was confident, full of determination, and never afraid to speak her mind.
After graduating from Vicksburg High School, she made San Diego her home. Her marriage to Charles Henderson Crews brought three children into the world; Charles Henderson, Darsell Elaine and Gregory Allen. Following the death of her first husband, she later married Charles Edward Taylor, and gave birth to twins, Cary Edward and Gary Elliott Taylor.
In a true display of devotion and love, she spent many of her later years caring for her granddaughters Raynell and Corina. Esther lived her life to the fullest and loved playing the penny slots at Sycuan, bingo at St. Rita’s Church, and laughing with friends and family while playing bid whist, and tonk. She loved to read, watch her “stories,” and play dominoes. As she persevered through struggles during her life, she always kept her children at the forefront of her heart.
She is survived by her children Charles, Darsell, Gregory, Cary and Gary, her grandchildren, LaToya, Raynell, Gregory II, Tawnee, Corina, Gary Jr., TreVaughn, and Treasure, her great grandchildren, Jaylin, Jayla and Zora and her siblings, Doris, Gayle, Brenda, and Darrell.
