Duane Smith Obituary

Duane Lamont Smith was born August 1, 1972 to Carolyn Jackson and the late Kenneth Smith Sr.

As a child he attended schools within the San Diego Unified School District and received his high school diploma.  He later attended the associated Technical College where he received a degree in Fiber Optics in 2012.

Duane was affectionately known to all as Scatty “C”, Milk Dud, and Uncle Big Eyes. He enjoyed many things in life like baseball (which he played as a child under Mr. Taylor), football, and other sports, but had a fondness and profound passion for cooking especially his famous chili and fish. But, Duane flourished when he was able to spend time with family and friends.

On August 31, 2012, he met the love of his life Verneal Edwards and later married on August 31, 2018.

On December 20, 2020, Duane was called home from his long journey.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife Verneal Edwards-Smith. His mother Carolyn Jackson, his children Duaniesha Smith of Hemet, CA, Duajanaye Smith, Dallas, TX, Erome Lucas and Jonathan Adams both of San Diego, CA. His brothers, Troy Horn Jr. of San Diego, CA, Kenneth Smith II and Andrew Jackson III both of Las Vegas, NV, Charles Baylor (Ginger) of Long Beach, CA, Wesley Edwards (Cremona) of Arlington, TX, Gary Edwards of Dallas, TX. His sisters, Kenya Smith of Charlotte, NC, Shaneisha Burton, Sheena Jennings and Jeanette Williams all of San Diego, CA, Elaine McDonald (Derek) of Mobile, AL, and Valerie Edwards of Dallas, TX. His grandchildren, Princeton Smith Johnson, Hosea Harris and O’tari Harris and a host of other family and friends.
