Demetrius Thomas I Obituary

Demetrius Thomas affectionately known as Mickey, Mickey D., and Greek was born October 30,1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to Barbara Thomas Weathers and James Larry.

At the age of 8, Demetrius went to live with grandparents Alta and Nishel Thomas. He attended Emerson Elementary where he developed a life-long friendship with Stevie Cole. At an early age, Demetrius started working for the St. Louis Post Dispatch delivering newspapers on Sundays.

In 1968, Demetrius relocated to San Diego, California with his family and favorite cousin, Dwight Thomas. Demetrius received his formal education from O'Farrell Middle school and then went on to graduate from Kearny High School. Upon graduation, he attended Cal State Long Beach.

Demetrius’s heart was his two children, Demetrius II and Kadeija. He adored his grandson, Kaleb who affectionately called him “G”. Demetrius was a devoted father, grandfather, and die-hard Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, going to family gatherings & watching numerous sports. You could catch him before sunrise making sure he was 1st in line to place his bets.

Demetrius was known for his infectious smile & laughter, his outgoing personality, and his willingness to forge new friendships. He never met a stranger. Demetrius was a kind and compassionate man, who made many close friends extended family.

Demetrius was a skilled Chef who managed many restaurants along the way. Often carrying the load of two jobs, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Demetrius was looking forward to retiring so he could be a full-time grandpa to Kaleb.

Demetrius was generous, kind, dependable and fun-loving. He was not quick to anger and never spoke ill of others. Demetrius was the nurturer for his family. You could count on him for love, support, and encouragement. He took pride in looking after the younger members of the family. Demetrius loved his family and his family loved him. From that love, a tight bond was formed between cousins Marlon, Reggie, and Demetrius.  We will all miss his big bright smile and hear him say "I got this cousin".
