Deborah Johnson Obituary

Deborah Ann Johnson, 65, of San Diego CA passed away on June 23, 2020.
Deborah was affectionately called Chocolate Chip by her children.
Deborah was born to the late William and Pearl Tate, August 31, 1954 in Cincinnati OH. Deborah graduated from Taft High School. She continued her education and received certification for nursing. Later on, Deborah became a medical technician (dispensed medicine).
Deborah is survived by four children: Cherita Glasper of Brooklyn NY; Pamela Waller of San Diego CA; Felicia Waller of Houston TX and Rosetta Thomas of Brooklyn NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren DeVante Risher, DeAnte Risher, Damari Waller, Taquir Johnson, Anthony Waller Jr,  Demaje Nabinett, Disiah Dozier, Paradise Smith, Taryn Waller, De’kari Johnson and Da’Vielle Johnson. Great grandchildren Brooklyn Risher and Kayden Risher.
Deborah was predeceased by her only son Anthony Jay Waller in 2012 and brother Wilbert Tate.
Deborah loved working in assisted living and nursing homes so she could provide the BEST care for our elders. She made sure  that her patients were well groomed and smelled good. Deborah’s greatest accomplishment at the Zebulon house was teaching/directing gospel music to the elderly patients with dementia. The gospel concert was a huge success. To this day, staff and family members are still in awe.
Deborah was a social butterfly. She always greeted everyone with open arms and a warm smile. No matter your circumstance Deborah would help you in any way that she could- financially, listening ear, food, shelter or words of encouragement. She also didn’t mind telling you a “thing or two”. As a result many called Deborah Momma Dukes, auntie, sis, cousin etc. She was loved by many because she had a big HEART!!
Deborah gave her life to Christ at a young age. In 1979, she relocated to San Diego, Ca and joined Mt Zion Baptist Church-Rev Whitmill Pastor. She was in love with her church family and active in the J Lenzie Choir. Deborah was known for her hats and nice attire for church. She could never look too good for Jesus. The day before church she made sure that her hat, suit, purse, shoes and Bible were ready for a day of worship. Deborah definitely was a SOLDIER FOR THE LORD!! Never too tired to PRAISE HIM!!
Deborah’s favorite pastimes were listening to gospel music all day, gospel concerts, crossword puzzles, bbq’s, bingo, taco night and family gatherings. Her hearty laugh could be heard loud and clear. You knew that she was having a ball.
The family sincerely appreciate all of your prayers and condolences during this difficult time and welcoming OUR ANGEL/QUEEN into HEAVEN. There will be a very private reloads due to COVID-19. We pray that you all continue to be well. God Bless
