Dawn Chang Obituary

Dawn Marie Chang entered this world on the 14th of September 1961 to Cacheta Doreen Grant (known mostly as Doreen) and Winston Tennshue Chang, in Kington, Jamaica. Dawn was Doreen’s first born and the first grandchild for Mahala and Theopilus Grant. Growing up in Jamaica, Dawn attended Maverly All Age Junior High School. While there, her mother, Doreen would meet and marry the love of her life, Noel Irmen. After Doreen and Noel married, Dawn emigrated with her mother to the United States, ultimately settling and making a home in San Diego, CA. where Dawn would attend Rolando Park Elementary, Holy Spirit Catholic School, and Crawford High School. Dawn was a playful, fun-loving person whose smile would warm your heart and brighten a room. Dawn become a wife and a mother to 3 sons (Michael, Dwayne, and Demetris). Even though she would later divorce, her 3 sons were her world. She loved her sons immensely and treasured them dearly. When Dawn became ill in 2016, she moved in permanently with her parents where Doreen would became Dawn’s primary care giver. Doreen ensured that Dawn had everything she needed; never going without; including baths, favorite meals, clothes, hair and doctor appointments, and you can‘t forget the trips to the casino! The two were inseparable and looked out for one another. On December 24, 2023, Dawn and her son Demetris, traveled to Colorado to spend Christmas with her son, Dwayne, and his family. Sadly, Dawn transitioned in the arms of the Lord at 4:30 am Christmas morning, never getting the chance to spend the Christmas holiday opening gifts, creating memories, and enjoying each other’s company. Dawn leaves behind many family members including: Mother and Father: Doreen & Noel Irmen, Step-Mother: Joyce Chang; Sons: Michael Whitehead, Dwayne & Demetris Thigpen; Daughter-in-Law Treva Thigpen; Brothers: Jack & Patrick Irmen, Harold, Tyrone & Christopher Chang; Brother-in-Law Brian Gallagher and Sisters: Jo-Ann Gallagher, Roxanne, Racquel, and Chacyl Chang, Auntie Molly & Aunt Carmen, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. To our dear Dawn, sleep well and take your rest. We will always remember your laughter and smile. You are forever in our hearts. Love and miss you!
