Darnice - Johnson

Darnice Johnson aka "Cookie" to beloved friends, was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend.

The eldest of 7 children, Darnice was born in St. Louis Missouri on September 22, 1955 to Louis and Ollie Thomas.

Darnice attended Lincoln High School in San Diego Ca. She became a young mother after giving birth to her eldest child and only son Eric Betts and chose to leave school early to commit to being a full time mother. The birth of 3 daughters LaWanda, Veronica and Darnisha Johnson would follow soon after.

Darnice was full of love, life, laughter and wisdom.  She had a beautiful smile with deep dimples and a charisma that would lighten every room she entered. Although a single mother, Darnice committed her life to the service of others. She was a nurturer. She loved singing and dancing. She also enjoyed reading, movies and spending quality time with family.

In recent years Darnice managed to reach a few milestones that she was very proud of. Like obtaining her driver's license, purchasing a brand new car and earning her General Education Diploma. Her biggest triumph was her baptism into the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Sadly, we lost Darnice Monday January 16, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father Louis Thomas, grandmothers Carrie Singleton and Big Mama, aunt Louise Singleton, uncle Bubba, 2 brothers Terry and Germell Thomas, 2 sisters Louise Evans and Lenore Thomas and long time spouse Richard Joe Pitts-

Darnice is survived by her mother Ollie, her 4 children. This would include her daughter-in-law Denise Betts, plenty grandchildren (including greats). 1 sister Noreen Thomas and 1 brother Tommy Lee Thomas, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

She will truly be missed -
