In Love & Cherished Memories
Darnella Johnson was born on July 23, 1925. She was a daughter of
the late Laura Rency Price & James Robert Price.
“Doll” as she was affectionally called by her family and close friends
was the youngest of seven children and lived her early years in
Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. There she attended the local school in
Anderson County, Kentucky. She accepted Christ at an early age
and was baptized at the Evergreen Baptist Church - Lawrenceburg.
Later she became a member of New Hope Baptist Church - Long
Beach and lastly Bayview Church, San Diego.
In the early years besides Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Darnella made
her residence in Cincinnati, Ohio. Later moving to Long Beach,
California with her beloved husband Allen Linwood Johnson who
she lovingly called “Daddy.” She was the mother of six children,
five grandchildren, nine great-grand children, two sons-in-law, two
daughters-in-law.
Passion and service was how she moved through life. Working as a
nurse for the VA hospital, volunteering in schools in mentoring
programs, caring for sick neighbors; all seem to be a calling. Even
after retirement, her and “Daddy” began working together taking
on assignments with RK Properties as they managed an apartment
complex. She received tons of accolades and awards as she left her
stamp of love and influence in places and spaces she worked and
volunteered in. She received an award for Volunteer of the Year
from the white house signed by President Barack Obama.
And in all that...she was the epitome of an “old school” family
matriarch. Generously passing on words of wisdom and
encouragement to the children, grandchildren and great-grands, as
well as all the numbers of nieces and nephews. She left nuggets of
advice to people she worked with, who all stayed active in her life
long after age and limited mobility slowed her down. Her passion
for her family was paramount. She loved her children dearly, but
the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heartbeat.
Her love for God was her source of strength and her Bible knowledge
was her weapon to enduring life’s changes.
Happily accepting her appointment with God on February 7, 2026;
Darnella now leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Adrian
A. Johnson, Shawn F. Johnson (Jennifer Johnson), Belita Darlene
