Darnell Kennedy, affectionately called “Big Moose”, was born in Shreveport Louisiana June 23, 1963 to his mother, the Deloris Kennedy of Bernice, Louisiana. Darnell, along with his mother and siblings, relocated to Southeast San Diego, CA in 1973. In 1981 he graduated from Clairmont High School. Upon graduating high school, he entered the workforce and worked for UCSD Food services. His humorous and gentle personality thrived in the service of others. You could always find Darnell laughing, making jokes, or making his way around his beloved city, San Diego, as he is quite independent. One of Darnell’s favorite places was Mission Beach. He loved the beach and would always encourage others to go by saying, “Let’s go to the beeeeach!!!”
At an early age, Darnell developed an insatiable passion for sports- baseball in particular. He was die-hard San Diego Padres fanatic, and routinely went to the games. He also had a passion for football. Although he loved the San Diego Chargers, he was a devoted Oakland Raiders fan.
Darnell, aka “Big Moose” accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. On July 20, 2022, his Lord made the decision to call him home. Darnell is preceded in death by his mother Deloris Kennedy-Harvey. He also leaves behind his devoted friend, Barbara Nucome; brothers and sisters Kenneth Burch, Latrell Barabin (Ron Barabin Sr., Prudence Kennedy-Jenkins (Ryan Jenkins Sr.), and Jefferyon Kennedy. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews: Tyiese McClleland, Shurkenda Burch, Tamara Thames, D’andre Bradley, Ron Jr. Barabin, Rashaad Barabin, Keith Hicks Jr., Raymier Barabin, Joshua Burch, Kyler Hicks, and a host of family and friends that loved him dearly.
Darnell was a son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. His smile and infectious laugh will be missed by so many.
