Clara Gavin Obituary

February 9, 1946, Clara M. Gavin was called to this earth to serve her purpose in life. Clara is the first child born to Willie and Minnie Anderson in Meridian Mississippi. She received her formal education in San Diego, California.

She was united in marriage to Wilson Gavin in 1961 to that union they had three children. She was preceded in death by son Jessie Howard Jr. both parents’ Willie & Minnie Anderson, one sister Linda Marie Washington.

She worked at the “Gallery” as a supervisor for 40 years at the Naval Training Center San Diego. This is where she met many young sailors (men and women) and formed a special bond with many sailors especially during the holidays. Affectionately known as Ms. Clara, she would open her home to the men and women who didn’t have a place to go for the holidays. She was known on her job for her beautiful smile, giving great advice to those far and near from home, and to those needing just a shoulder to lean on. and some loving motherly comforting she was a welcoming sight. She loved her family she was best big sister one could have, a great mother and a great friend to all.

She was a member of End-time Christian Solider Fellowship under the awesome Pastor Raymond K. Sweet, Sr. for fourteen year prior to becoming a member of Calvary Baptist Church under the spiritual guidance of Dr. Emanuel Whipple, Sr. in 2017. On Friday February 22, 2019 on what would have been her father’s 100 birthday surrounded by her children and grandchildren & great-grandchild.  God called her from labor to reward to come home and take her rest. She leaves to cherish her memory: son Edward W. Gavin Sr, of San Diego, California, daughters Sonja Marie Gavin & Bernice Alexander (Eric) of San Diego, California, grand children: Edward W.
