Obituary

CHARLESZETTA REED WAS BORN IN SAND SPRINGS, OK ON OCTOBER 24, 1928, AND WAS THE 5TH OLDEST OF 9 CHILDREN BORN TO WASHINGTON & PEARLINE REED. BOTH PARENTS WERE HARDWORKING GOD-FEARING PARENTS WHO RAISED THEIR FAMILY WITH STRICT MORAL AND CHRISTIAN VALUES WHILE BEING PART OF THE HOLINESS CHURCH.

SHORTLY AFTER THE LOSS OF BOTH HER PARENTS AT AN EARLY AGE THE FAMILY RELOCATED TO KANSAS CITY, MO. THERE SHE MET THE LOVE OF HER LIFE JOHN RICHARD BUTLER. THEY WERE MARRIED AND SHE BECAME A YOUNG NAVY WIFE WHO WOULD TRAVEL THE UNITED STATES TO VARIOUS MILITARY INSTALLATIONS AND DUTY STATIONS, EVENTUALLY SETTLING IN SAN DIEGO, CA WHERE THEY WOULD RAISE A FAMILY OF 6 BOYS AND 3 GIRLS.

HER YEARNING TO CONTINUE TO GROW AND NOURISH HER CHRISTIAN BELIEFS AND HER INDWELLING SPIRIT SHE WAS LED TO 2ND BAPTIST CHURCH WHERE SHE IMMEDIATLY WAS DRAWN TO SERVICE AND BECAME A MEMBER OF 2ND BAPTIST CHURCH AUXILLARY USHER BOARD. THIS DEDICATED CALLING WAS A SPIRITUALLY SATISFYING JOURNEY WHICH LED HER TO FORM MANY LIFE LONG BONDS AND BEAUTIFUL LOYAL FRIENDSHIPS.

ONCE HER YOUNGEST SONS HAD BECOME SCHOOL AGED, SHE SOUGHT EMPLOYMENT AND WAS HIRED AS A COOK AT MEADOWLARK CONVALESCENT HOSPITAL WHERE DURING HER CARREER THERE SHE WORKED HER WAY INTO A SUPERVISORY POSITION AND BECAME INSTUMENTAL IN HIRING AND MENTORING MANY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN IN THE COMMUNITY.  UPON HER RETIRING AFTER A REWARDING CAREER, SHE WAS ENCOURAGED TO SEEK EMPLOYMENT BY ONE OF HER CLOSEST FRIENDS AT SAN DIEGO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WHERE SHE WAS HIRED AND REMAINED A DEDICATED RESPECTED EMPLOYEE UNTIL HER FINAL RETIREMENT.

BEAUTIFUL CHARLESZETTA WAS ALSO KNOWN BY THE LOVING NAMES OF MOMMA BUTLER...ETTA...ZETTA…CHARLES...LOLA AND GRANDMA. WHATEVER NAME SHE WAS ADDRESSED BY THERE WAS ALWAYS HER WARM LOVING COMPASSIONATE GOD-FEARING SPIRIT TO EMBRACE YOU IN ANY SITUATION OR CIRCUMSTANCE. IN HER BEAUTIFUL LIFE SHE WAS A HUMBLE SERVANT FOR THE KINGDOM WHO WAS USED TO TOUCH MANY LIVES LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY.

IN THE LATER STAGES OF HER JOURNEY, SHE ENJOYED SPENDING TIME WITH HER “POSSE” WHICH CONSISTED OF LONG TIME RELATIONSHIPS THAT WERE FORMED AS A MEMBER OF 2ND BAPTIST CHURCH. AS AN AVID SAN DIEGO CHARGERS FAN AND LONG TIME SEASON TICKET HOLDER SHE ENJOYED MANY YEARS OF THE THRILL OF VICTORY AND RELISHED THE OPPORTUNITY TO TELL OPPOSING FANS TO “PACK IT UP” ALSO TO TELL HER CLOSE FRIENDS WHO ALSO WERE OPPOSING FOOTBALL FANS.  “HOW ABOUT THOSE CHARGERS”.

WE CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF CHARLESZETTA BUTLER AND THANK GOD FOR HER BEING THE MATRIARCH OF A LOVING FAMILY AND FOR BEING A BLESSED LOVING WIFE MOTHER SISTER AUNTIE GRANDMA AND LOYAL FRIEND.

CHARLESZETTA WAS PROCEDED TO GLORY BY HER PARENTS WASHINGTON & PEARLINE REED, BROTHERS AND SISTERS ROBERT REED, CHARLIE REED, WASH REED, DAVID REED, MAMIE REED, OLEANOR ALLEN, LUCILLE TAYLOR, ODESSA MERIWEATHER, SON BRIAN EUGENE BUTLER, GRANDSON GREGORY R BUTLER, AND GRANDAUGHTERS UNITA BUTLER, KHALILLIAH BUTLER, DENIA BUTLER.

TO CHERISH HER MEMORY, SHE LEAVES SONS STEVEN BUTLER, GREG BUTLER, GEORGE BUTLER, ROBERT BUTLER, DAVID BUTLER, DAUGHTERS RHONDA BUTLER, TINA BUTLER, JOAN BUTLER, SON IN LAW WILLIE ADWAY, DAUGHTER IN LAWS FRANCES BUTLER AND SANDRA BUTLER, 15 GRAND CHILDREN 15 GREAT GRAND CHILDREN, A HOST OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS, COUSINS HER “POSSE” AND DEAR FRIENDS.
