Bettie McCowin Obituary

On March 20, 1942, in Woodville Alabama, Bettie Joyce Williams was born to Josie Mae Isbell and John Williams and the earth was blessed with a uniquely beautiful light.

She met United States Naval Senior Chief Petty Officer Robert McCowin in San Diego, CA in 1969.

Together they enjoyed 51 years of laughter, strength, and enduring love.

She was a caring wife, loving mother supportive sister and selfless friend.

Bettie was known for cooking food that could warm the soul. Also, she could be found listening to her impressive collection of R&B music or screaming at the television when her favorite player fumbled the ball or missed the basket.

Let it be known, she was a die-hard Charger fan.

What truly set Bettie apart was her unique ability to open her heart and her home to anyone who needed to feel the kind of love that can only come from family.

She is survived by her husband Robert McCowin Sr., Mother-in-law Nadine McCowin, sons: Robert McCowin Jr. (Shelia), Steven Dillard (Robin), Jeffrey Dillard (Tammy), Toney McCowin, Mark McCowin (Kristi), daughters: Cindy McCowin, Robin McCowin, Erica Edwards, and Marian Harris. Brother Paul Jackson Jr. (Barbara) and sister Yvette Jackson and a multitude of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Bettie dedicated her life to those she loved. She led by example in a world full of challenges and obstacles. Bettie's strength, compassion, and genuine nature has left a lasting mark on all who knew her. Though she is gone from this earth, her light will continue to be reflected through the many lives shaped by her love and kindness.

Bettie will be missed by all but never forgotten.

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."
