Bernadine Larena Duhaylungsod Villarin, known by her closest friends and family as "Din" passed peacefully away in her sleep on February 15, 2020 after a brave fight against Stage 4 Breast Cancer. She was 61 years old.
A loving and proud mother and grandmother, Din is survived by her eldest son, war veteran, Inaki Aguas, her only daughter Ana Marie Carlton, her youngest son, Pablito Villarin JR and only granddaughter, Piper Carlton.
Din was born in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines on October 24, 1958 to Hermie Duhaylungsod, an engineer, and Adelina Duhaylungsod, a teacher. The eldest of six siblings: Diana, Arnold, Hermie JR, Monalisa, Caroline and Dodie. She attended Lourdes High School in Cagayan de Oro City and was an intern throughout college at La Concordia College in Manila. Din was a lifelong pianist and was able to read musical notes faster than the written word.
A beauty queen, business woman, talented musician, artist and fiercely competitive golfer. She never ceased to amaze anyone with her multi-talented abilities, determination, charm, undeniable beauty and strength. In 1977, she represented the Philippines for the Miss Lions Club International and was a contestant of the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant thereafter.
Din left a remarkable impression on anyone she met - she was truly one-of-a-kind. She could make anyone laugh and no matter what, always had the biggest, most vibrant personality in the room.
Din dedicated her life for her children. She worked hard to send her youngest son to study International Business at Richmond University in London and supported her son and daughter to live and graduate from college in the U.S. She was a fiercely loyal friend and always inspired people in her life to dream big, have no fear and to trust in the universe with a joyful heart.
When Din's health declined, she was lovingly cared for by sister-in-law, Mariflor, brother Hermie and youngest son, JR, in San Diego. Din was brave. No matter how difficult or painful things got, Din always made things seem easy. Facing any challenge with a smile and an unshakable level of confidence. She was relentlessly optimistic and never questioned her faith in God. She was strong, deeply spiritual and truly lived every moment with a grateful and happy heart.
