Auriel Sumner Obituary

REFLECTION OF LIFE

Auriel Sumner was born on January 1, 1986, in San Diego, California and was the first-born child of Monica Douglas and Darrell Moon.  Auriel, better known as “Aurie” to family and friends, came into the world inquisitive, strong and stubbornly independent.  She was fearless, fun, phenomenally smart, a fierce protector of her family and friends and was always willing to stand up for those she loved, which undeniably were many.

Auriel accepted Christ at an early age and truly loved to sing His praises.  As a toddler, her mellifluous voice could be heard throughout the house, which is how her mother always knew where she was.  Auriel attended and became an active member of New Creation Church, where she used her melodic voice to sing in the choir and her love of Christ to teach in the children’s church.  She attended Eastlake High School where she excelled academically as well as artistically.  At Eastlake, her love of singing led her to the Eastlake Show Choir, where she performed every year at Disneyland. Auriel was chosen to attend an elite camp for especially gifted students of the arts, where she once again excelled and won numerous awards for her vocal and writing abilities.

Auriel was employed as a house manager, caring for individuals with disabilities and she loved her work and the individuals she cared for.  Auriel was always driven and anything she put her mind to she accomplished.

On August 15, 2020, our Lord and Savior called Auriel home.  She leaves one child to mourn her passing, Journey Sumner, her parents Monica Alexander and Darrell Moon, stepfather Marquis Alexander, grandparents Ron and Charlene Murakami and Ben Moon, sister Aurianna Hawk, godbrother Aaron Briscoe, nephews Phillip Hawk-Jones and Kaiel Briscoe, cousins Malika Hollins, Iran Mobley, Darren McNeal, Alexis Armitage, Jahzae Hollins, aunts Ursula Douglas, Stephanie Douglas , uncles Dedrick Grant, Martell Moon and Damon Murakami and a host of family and friends.  Auriel was preceded in death by her grandparents Iran and Margaret Douglas and godmother Marana James.

Auriel’s passing leaves an emptiness in our hearts. We will all remember her for her radiant smile, infectious  laugh, her larger than life personality and her never-ending love for her daughter Journey.  She can now rest in God's grace for her job is now done.
