Augustine Griffin Obituary

“Mommy”, “Mama”, “Mom”,  “Madear” “Mother”. . .All warm expressions of our mother.

“Grandmother”, “Grandmother Griffin” and “Great Gran”. . . warmly expressed by generations that followed.

We all love her and miss her dearly.  Our peace is in knowing that she loved the Lord throughout her 96 years; and is now resting in the arms of our Saviour.

Being fiercely independent, proud and determined to accomplish things exactly as she envisions, Augustine has written her own abbreviated obituary which follows, highlighting what was important to her throughout life. . .

                                                                 **********

Mrs. Augustine Carter Griffin was the third child of six children born to Terry and Ollie Carter on May 7, 1922 in Mansfield, La.  They were a big and jolly family!

Augustine joined church at an early age and was baptized at the New Eastside Baptist church in Mansfield, La. She attended public schools of Desoto Parish and was a graduate of Grambling College where she obtained a lifetime teaching credential. She taught elementary school in both Louisiana and San Diego.

She came to La Jolla, CA. in 1945 where her daddy was employed by Casa de Manana Hotel.

She later married and was a faithful companion to the late Paul Griffin, Jr. for 31 yrs.  To this union 4 children were born.

After moving to CA. she united with Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Noah E. Taylor.  Calvary was a great part of Augustine’s interest and dedication.  She faithfully worked and served in the Sunday School as Superintendent of the Nursery Dept. for many years; taught in the Intermediate Department; was President of the Matron auxiliary; and a member of the Sanctuary Choir.  In 1996, she united with the United Missionary Baptist Church.  There she was active in the Sunday School and Mission.  On July 31, 2005, she united with New Paradise Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. James Moore, a minister whom she taught in the intermediate department at Calvary Baptist Church.

                                                                 **********

Clearly, from beginning to end, her focus was her church and living a Christian life.

Today, we are honoring. . . .

                                                Mom!

You mean so much. . .
