Victoria Strickland Obituary

Victoria  Ann Wilson Strickland was born on October 20,1947 in Phoenix, Arizona to proud parents Joseph and Princella Wilson. Victoria was raised by her father and paternal grandmother, Ruth Dixon in Newport News, Virginia. She received her formal education in the Newport News City Schools System, graduating from Huntington High School in 1966.

Victoria met James Strickland and together they had 2 sons and 1 daughter. Victoria and her 3 children relocated to San Diego, California to reunite with her mother and sibling to start a new life for her family. In 1976, she welcomed another daughter.

Victoria became a cosmetologists after she came to San Diego, California , then later worked in the nursing home healthcare field and retail for many years. Until her health began to decline.

In the early 80's Victoria picked up a new hobby in CB radio. She joined a local group called Devil's Triangle that traveled all over California and other states. Her CB handle was Mother Nature AKA Sugar Sugar. She made lifelong friends who are around today. She was also an active member of 'Blacks in Government'.

In 2017 she united with Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. R. L. Edwards Sr. Victoria was a faithful member and she loved her church and pastor.

Victoria was longtime Denver Broncos Fan her favorite players were John Elway and Peyton Manning. She enjoyed watching Serena playing Tennis and Tiger Woods playing Golf.  She loved to cook and She was such a hostess at all family gatherings. Her home was the place to be. She gave you a place to stay if you needed it, fussed at you, if you needed it. She will be a tough act to follow.

She loved her family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the loves of her life. If you wanted a babysitter everyone came to her and she never refused. Victoria Ann Wilson Strickland departed this Life on July 17th, 2019 at Kaiser Hospital surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Princella, sisters Regina Waggoner Green, Belinda Waggoner, brothers William Waggoner Jr, Willie Wilson, and nephew William Waggoner III.

Victoria leaves behind  to cherish here memories: two daughters, Karen Strickland, San Diego, CA, Nicole (Conway) Robinson, Pasadena, MD., two sons James E Strickland III, Las Vegas, NV., Kenneth Strickland, San Diego, CA., Sister Juanita (James) Nelson, Zion, IL. Godson Tyree (Myisha) Newton, Chula Vista, CA. Sister In law Mary Wilson, Victorville CA., One great aunt Wilhelmina Chapman-Bell, Oakland, CA. Like A Sister, Roslyn Smith-Byers, San Diego, CA. Special friend Bailey Marley. Seven grandchildren, 6 Great grandchildren. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, friends and her Greater Fellowship Family!
