Rosa Harris Obituary

ROSA “Rosie” MARIE HARRIS  was born on May 25, 1932 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  She was the second daughter born to Charles and Mary Howard.  At the age of six Rosie and her family moved to Baytown, Texas. In 1945, the family moved to San Diego, California where she attended and graduated from Point Loma High School.

During the early years Rosie was employed at Convair for many years until she later joined Conoco Oil Company, where she retired in 1983.

Rosie and her sister-best friend, Virgina “Butsy” Coney (deceased) had an unbreakable bond as sisters and navigated through life together from the beginning to the end.  Rosie was a faithful and devoted member of Community Missionary Baptist church, for over 30 years, starting under the leadership of Reverend Charles Gayton (deceased).  While at Community, she served on the usher board and was a faithful and loyal server in any ministry that needed her. She also attended the George L. Stevens senior center where she participated in various recreational, fitness and wellness activities. She enjoyed socializing and interacting with her fellow residents at Jean McKinney Manor, where she lived for 10 years, playing bingo and doing arts and crafts.  What Rosie loved the MOST was her family, and all of the family gatherings, playing dominos and Bid Whist, watching her favorite soap opera the Young and the Restless and old western classics. She also loved traveling, hanging out with her grandkids, and going to Casinos playing the Slots and Bingo.

On Wednesday October 30, 2019 Rosie was called from earthly labor to eternal rest.  She leaves to mourn her passing her loving children: Charles Howard (MaryAnn), Robert Manuel (Beverly) Cheri Gouthier-Simmons (Preston) and Cindy Barros. Six Grandchildren: Charles Howard Jr., Moena Santee (Raymond), Frederick Montgomery, Jahlia Rolle, Cherron Brooks, Anaysia Payton and  Arianna Payton. Two Great-Grandchildren: Breon Perry and Isaiah Waters.  Rosie was a wonderful sister, fun to be around auntie and loyal friend to many. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
