Margaret Huggins Carter was born in Jackson, Misssissippi to Luemma and Wallace Bowlen on September 28, 1934. The family then moved to Louisiana for 2 years, before settling in San Diego in 1944. Margaret attended San Diego City Schools and fellowshipped with Friendship Baptist Church as a child with her mother. Margaret met and married Walter Huggins at a young age and they remained married until his passing. Years later, she met and married Harold Carter in 1967. They were married for 48 years until his passing in 2015. As an adult she accepted Christ into her life, and was baptized at New Faith Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Winston Martin.
Margaret worked for Edgemoor Hospital in Santee for years. She also worked for the IVAC Corp. which is now Alaris Medical Systems. She loved and enjoyed her job very much. Although Margaret was in her 80’s, she had the mindset of a 40 year old and lived and loved life to the fullest..
Margaret was preceded in death, by her brother, Wallace Bowlen Jr., three children, Yvonne, Theresa and Alvin; four grandchildren, James, Nichelle, Cheryl and Shawanna. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Thomasa, JoAnn, Valerie, Cynthia, Penny and Malaysha; brothers, Michael, Derric, Mark and Maurice Carter; God brother, Bruce McBride; granddaughters, Ena, Zenobia, Miesha, Chasity, Gwendolyn, Shanika, Damisha, Pashun, Sequasha, Tatiana, Messiah, Mariah, Mauricia, Staci, Sheauna and Marissah; grandsons, Derrold, Amiri, Jason, Mark, Jr., Corey, Maurice Johnson, Bobby and Marcus Jenkins, Demone, Big Maurice, little Maurice and Marquis’ friends, Carol Harris and Gustine Jenkins; one niece, Malissa Bowlen; 28 great granchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Margaret will never be forgotten and will always be missed.
