Lula Mae Carter passed from this life on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in her home with her beloved husband Arthur Carter by her side.

            Lula was born on September 10, 1934 in New Orleans, LA. She was the oldest child born to Luther and Margie Johnson. She later united with her biological father, Emory Marshall. She attended church at an early age and love to sing in the choir.

            Lula attended school in McComb, MS where she exceled in all subjects with math being her favorite. Lula was always a hard worker, which she learned from her Grandmother Lula Dillion. After spending time with her. She graduated two grades earlier, in which being so independent.  She married at a young age to James McCullum and two children were born to that union, Jacqueline and Suzan. Marrying for the second time to Earl Jackson,  four children were born to that union, Formosa, Christopher, Kenneth and Anthony. Now her family was complete.

            Lula worked hard with her husband to raise their children. After her husbands death, she went back to school attending USC, getting her nursing and accounting degrees. After a brief illness, she forced herself to change careers. She worked as a makeup artist for Greenwood Mortuary. Working less hours, she found herself still able to care for her children and raised them well.

            She married Arthur Carter with two teenage boys still at home. Years later she and  her husband adopted a girl (Little Jackie). They were married thirty-nine years until her death. Lula loved a challenge so she started another job at San Diego County working in the Payroll Accounting Department. She received many awards for her job performance.

            Lula was an active member of North Park Apostolic Church as a Deaconess and member of Mothers of Zion, where she had many duties, which she loved to do with a smile. She enjoyed reading, writing, cooking and baking. She loved to cook for her family; she took pride in every dish prepared. She also cooked for her church and was known to be an outstanding cook. She wrote her first cookbook with some of her favorite recipes. Her cover page was her own table setting and her trademark was a carousel. When Lula was not cooking for her family, she was working on her next book. She completed her second book “Hold on to the Brass Ring”. She spent time finishing her third book that had yet to be published and a fourth book in the makings.

Lula was a member of COTY- Les Dona Social Club where she has held many positions. Her club helped with scholarships for students to go to college. They also worked many activities in the community.

            Lula is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jacqueline and son Christopher.

            She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Arthur Carter, daughters Suzan Gentry of Odessa, TX, Formosa Gandy and Jackie Carter both of San Diego, Ca; son’s, Kenneth Jackson of San Diego and  Anthony Jackson and wife Gwen of Carson, CA. Ten grandchildren and Twenty great-grandchildren, brother’s Bobbie Johnson of Jackson, MS, Frank Austin and Arthur Otis both from McComb, MS and Carl Marshall of Ward, Al. Sister’s Alma Hill of Moss Point, MS, Kathryn Kilpatrick of Jackson, MS, Charlene Smith and husband Hampton of Albany, Ga, Frances Otis of McComb, MS and Allie Martin of Gastoria, NC. Sister in-laws, Ella Stuart of El Paso, TX, Carrie Waters of Houston, TX, Brother in-law, Chester Carter of Kansas City, MO.; best friend, Doris Ford as well as a host of relatives and friends that love her
