Mr. Leonard Legolian “Boots” Moore, son of the late Robert Moore Sr. and Ethel Walker Moore was born April 15, 1927 in Grambling, Louisiana. He attended the public schools of Lincoln Parish and was a graduate of Grambling State University where he excelled in three sports, Baseball, Basketball and Football. Upon graduation, Boots coached at his beloved Grambling University before touring with the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters. On July 18, 2009, Boots Moore was inducted into the Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame for his leadership that contributed to team’s win over Southern University in 1946. And in 2017, he was recognized by the Harlem Globetrotters with a special signed commemorative ball and personalized letter on his 90th birthday for his contribution to the historic organization.
Boots was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in San Diego. He departed this life Saturday, October 25, 2019 at his home surrounded by his wife, family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mia Carla Moore, his elder siblings, Alvin Moore, Leon Moore Sr, Robert Moore Jr, Roscoe Moore and Gustavia Moore Bailey.
A proud father and grandfather, he was loved by many. His wonderful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife of 47 years, Isabel C Moore of National City, CA, his children: Linda Marie Moore Scrubbs, of Leesburg, Florida, Nelda Dow of La Pin, OR, son, Gregory Torres of San Diego, step-daughter Janie Straight of San Diego, CA, step-sons Chris Cortez of White Oak, TX and Frank Cortez of San Diego, CA, a host of devoted nieces and nephews, cousins, grand and great grandchildren, neighbors and friends.
