Karol Lynn Corle

Karol Rife Corle, 78, passed away on October 12, 2019 after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Born Karol Lynn Rife on September 10, 1941 to Agnes and Bill Rife at San Diego’s historic Quintard Hospital, Corle was brought up in a home dedicated to philanthropy and public service. Her parents were notable members of the city’s Masonic and Shriner communities and Karol dutifully followed as an Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters and was actively involved in several philanthropic organizations throughout her life.

Karol Rife’s first marriage was to Curtiss C. Krueger, an electrical and computer engineer with whom she shared her life in the College Rolando area for over 20 years. During their marriage, Karol worked as an administrative assistant for the Al Bahr Temple and later became a travel agent. Following her divorce and Curtiss’ passing, she married plumber Thomas Corle, becoming a stepmother to his sons, Thomas and Michael. Karol worked for the Corles’ business, Express Rooter, as an accountant and dispatcher.

After their divorce, Karol re-committed her life to the charitable work of the Sigma Alpha sorority, which she joined in 1965. A member of the Zeta Theta chapter of the organization, Karol was elected to several council offices, receiving the Golden Award in June 2016 in celebration of 50 years of service. Karol’s work on behalf of Sigma Alpha benefitted Heartspring, a home and facility for children facing multiple physical and medical challenges.

Survivors include her brother Jerry, her sister-in-law Jan, her nephew Eric, her niece Erin as well as hundreds of friends and loved ones who remember her selfless dedication to the less fortunate.

Karol will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Greenwood Mortuary on November 1. A public service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at California Cremation located at 5880 El Cajon Blvd.
