Curtis Blake Obituary

The Mister Curtis B. (Bernard) Blake was born to Essie D. Jones and Percy Blake, Sr on May 23, 1944  in Jefferson, Texas. The family moved from Texas to (Frontier) located in Point Loma, California.  Curtis met and later married Cheryl A. Bradford on February 14, 1967 and to this union 3 Children were born.  He later met Jackie Williams and to this union 2 Children were born.

Curtis completed his Formal Education at Clara Barton, Montgomery Jr. High, San Diego High and Snyder High School in San Diego. He also worked for many years at the Greenwood Cemetery on Imperial Avenue in San Diego. In his youth and young adult days, he loved to play the Guitar and Sing. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends at various locations.  We always knew where to find him.

Curtis declared Sunday was “God’s Day”! In keeping with his tradition, you would find him at home in front of the TV with a Newspaper refusing to go outside.  Although he was not formally a member of a church, he considered Choice Harvest Worship Center his church and knew “his sister and brother in-law had him covered”.  His Hobbies were Fishing, Playing Dominoes and talking smack to anybody about it. Often, when provoked, he would pull his small pocket knife out and wave it at you as a gesture of fun.  We loved it!

Papa as the grands called him had a nickname for almost everyone. He loved his children and grandchildren and was the life of the party at our Family Reunions. With his Boom Box, Cassette Tapes and Slab of Raw Ribs in hand, he came ready to Cha-Cha and do his famous Bunny Hop Dance. As the Patriarch, he would always gather the family and wrap up by singing the song “Family Reunion”.

On Thursday, November 14, 2019, the Lord called Curtis home to Eternal Life. He will be greatly missed, but forever loved.
