Bernice Hatter Lee was the fourth child of six born on
September 19, 1940 in Haynesville, Louisiana to the late Estella
Cheathamand ColumbusHatter, Jr. Berniceaccepted Christ at an
early age and joined Sweet Home Baptist Church in Emerson,
Arkansas. She received her formal education at Mc Mittress
School in Emerson, Arkansas. Bernice met and married Avan
Jones. To thisunion two children wereborn, Marilyn and Garry
Jones. Later in lifeuponmovingtoSan Diego, Californiain 1966,
Bernice re-dedicated her life and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church
under the leadership of Caney L. Johnson. Years later she joined
Greater LifeBaptist Church, under thespiritual leadership of Rev.
Willie E. Manley. Bernice was a faithful member for 37 years.
She served on the Pastor?s Aide and the Usher Board until her
health began to fail.
Bernicemet her soul-matePaul M. Leeand their friendship
blossomed. In 1976 Paul and Bernice were married. Their
relationship evolved into 30 years of love, friendship and
happiness. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring
grandmother and great grandmother. Bernicewas a sweet sister
to her siblings. She loved her family. It was her generosity and
kind heart that wewill never forget. Shewould help anyonethat
needed help. She didn?t know how to say "no." Bernice retired
from US Airways after twenty-five years. Bernice was a Classy
Diva. She is preceded in death by her parents Estella and
ColumbusHatter, Jr.; her son Garry Jones; husband, Paul M. Lee;
sister, Helen Turner; brothers, Azariah Hatter and Sylvester
Hatter.
Bernice Lee was called home to be with her Lord and
Savior on September 11, 2018. Sheleavesto cherish her memory:
her loving and devoted daughter, Marilyn Jones-Fulgham of San
Diego, California; sisters, Lizzie Cook of Dallas, Texas, Gloria
Ford of Houston, Texas and Diane Robinson of Magnolia,
Arkansas; brothers, Jerry Hatter of Detroit,MI andDennisHatter
of Houston, Texas. Six Grand-daughters, Leontine, Portia,
Michel'le, April, Alisha and Arika. Eleven great grandchildren,
five great-great grandchildren, One God-son, Richard Brown,
best friend Rosa Curtis, and a host of nieces and nephews and
relatives.Weloveloveyou.
